Smoothies might seem like reasonably straightforward things, but they're actually quite complicated. It's not just a case of thinking, "I like apples, I like bananas and I like pineapples, so an apple, banana & pineapple smoothie would be wonderful." No no no no noooo... If only it were that easy. Whilst those ingredients make up the larger part of this recipe, the more observant of you will notice the "& Lemon" bit. Not too much - just one lemon per serving - but it helps add a little bit of bite. A pleasant, delicious bite, at that.
You will need (serves 1):
1 Apple (preferably Russet)
1 Lemon
1 Banana
¼ Pineapple
What to do:
Cut the apple into wedges and put them through the juicer.
Pour the juice into the blender.
Squeeze the lemon and pour the juice into the blender, adding the banana too.
Remove the skin form the pineapple and slice the flesh into the blender.
Whizz everything until smooth.
Serve over ice, or add four or five ice cubes to the blender.
50ml of bottled, freshly pressed apple juice will do if your juicer’s on strike.
